The Colour Run

In my previous post I claimed that I may not even upload again. But here I am. Writing a new blog post.

On Saturday 15th August 2015, I completed my first ever Colour Run (or 'Color' Run which is how it is spelt on all of the clothing given out) and, without doubt, it has been one of the best days of my year so far.

The first Color Run took place in Phoenix, Arizona in the March of 2011. The founder, Travis Snyder, had one ambition: to encourage professionals and novices to run together to promote healthiness and happiness. After experiencing it myself, he is fulfilling his goal. Smiling faces surrounded me as I watched people walk, run, skip or even gallop. Everyone was happy. The run is five kilometres long, a frightening length to many, but with the happy atmosphere that buzzes in the air, you forget you're even running!

So what do you do? Well, to begin with, you have to register and pay around £30 to receive your Color Run kit: a t-shirt, a sweat headband, tattoos, face paint, your running number (with pins) all with the Color Run logo on. Initially, the fee seemed quite large to pay for a 5k fun run. However, when the day is over and the run is completed, you'll realise every penny was worth it.
On the day, you arrive and can take part in a warm up normally run by the sponsors of the Color Run. Next, in staggered groups, you begin the run. You pass four or five coloured stations where volunteers chuck coloured powder on you.
Five kilometres whizzes by as you approach the finish line and receive a bottle of water and a packet of your own powder. After the run there is music being played on a stage where everyone surrounds it having fun. Approximately every fifteen minutes, new arrivals surrounding the stage are asked, by the hosts on stage, to throw their powder up.During the 'mini festival' tons of freebies are thrown out including t-shirts, sunglasses, socks and even MORE powder! Despite this, I managed to gain nothing!

Persuaded yet? I hope so. But if not check out this video. I'm definitely doing it next year and I think you should too.
