A Fresh Space

After having fuchsia pink and duck egg blue colour scheme in my room for the last five years, I decided there was need for a change. Unfortunately, I took no pictures of my room before the re-vamp so they can not be compared. However, take my word for it, my room looks a lot better now. This post only shows a section of my room because, although the rest of my bedroom has changed, I wanted to show you the main part - the bed area.

As I'm currently in year 10, I'm at the start of exams and homework engulfing my life. I thought it was important that my room could be a place to chill and de-stress from all that work. I used to hardly spend any time in my room but, now, whenever I'm at home, I'm in there all the time.

The process of updating my room was a challenging one. Due to the unevenness of my walls, the last time we had decorated my room, there had been wallpaper put up to hide the bumps (this was then painted on top of). But this wallpaper wasn't your ordinary wallpaper. Annoyingly, my mum, dad and I had to spend hours and hours scraping it off (not with our bare hands - of course!). It took months. So now that's done, I am honestly so relieved.

As my room is quite small, the dark fuchsia aided my room in looking smaller than it already was. But now, the bright white has combatted that and, consequently, my room looks bigger. Instead of having two colours in my room, I now have only one. This enables me to decorate it at  Christmas and/or mix in other colours whenever I want because they will always work with the white. Most people, when painting their room white, choose a cream or an off-white, but I decided that completely white paint was what I wanted. I picked up a couple of tubs of Dulux paint from The Range.

This is my finished room:

Most of the decor in this image are new, but the duvet cover and the blanket were bought a few years back. The small pillow in front of my bigger ones was sewn by my mum.

This headboard was purchased about a month ago from Amazon and I absolutely love it! Before this, I had a wooden head board which did not go with the colour scheme in my room nor sit right on the back of my bed. This headboard is very comfortable to relax against and is a great addition to my room. Soon, I hope to buy some fairy lights to drape over the headboard to make it look like something you'd see on Tumblr.

I purchased this 'Memories' picture frame from B&M about two years ago and they still sell it. For only £2.99, you can't really go wrong. Recently, I had some pictures printed off so was finally able to put them in this frame.

This piece of decor was handmade by my mum and, because I don't know what it is called, I'm just going to call it a 'piece of decor'. At first, I was sceptical about this addition, but now I love it! If you'd like, I could make a separate blog post on how to make this.
The photo frame which was gifted to me by a friend at Christmas so I, subsequently, do not know where it was bought. The hook the photo frame is hanging on was bought specifically from Wilkinson's for its design. After all, why would I want a boring white hook?!

The final aspect of my 'new room' I wanted to show you was my mirror. Although I have had this mirror for years, the quotes are a new addition. All it took was a printer and a piece of card - simples. I had read that looking at your favourite quotes everyday helps you to implement what they say in your life. By putting them around something I look at every single morning, I thought I'd give it a try.

So that's it! That is my 'new' room. I hope you enjoyed looking at the decor in my room and maybe gained some inspiration for your own.

The Colour Run

In my previous post I claimed that I may not even upload again. But here I am. Writing a new blog post.

On Saturday 15th August 2015, I completed my first ever Colour Run (or 'Color' Run which is how it is spelt on all of the clothing given out) and, without doubt, it has been one of the best days of my year so far.

The first Color Run took place in Phoenix, Arizona in the March of 2011. The founder, Travis Snyder, had one ambition: to encourage professionals and novices to run together to promote healthiness and happiness. After experiencing it myself, he is fulfilling his goal. Smiling faces surrounded me as I watched people walk, run, skip or even gallop. Everyone was happy. The run is five kilometres long, a frightening length to many, but with the happy atmosphere that buzzes in the air, you forget you're even running!

So what do you do? Well, to begin with, you have to register and pay around £30 to receive your Color Run kit: a t-shirt, a sweat headband, tattoos, face paint, your running number (with pins) all with the Color Run logo on. Initially, the fee seemed quite large to pay for a 5k fun run. However, when the day is over and the run is completed, you'll realise every penny was worth it.
On the day, you arrive and can take part in a warm up normally run by the sponsors of the Color Run. Next, in staggered groups, you begin the run. You pass four or five coloured stations where volunteers chuck coloured powder on you.
Five kilometres whizzes by as you approach the finish line and receive a bottle of water and a packet of your own powder. After the run there is music being played on a stage where everyone surrounds it having fun. Approximately every fifteen minutes, new arrivals surrounding the stage are asked, by the hosts on stage, to throw their powder up.During the 'mini festival' tons of freebies are thrown out including t-shirts, sunglasses, socks and even MORE powder! Despite this, I managed to gain nothing!

Persuaded yet? I hope so. But if not check out this video. I'm definitely doing it next year and I think you should too.

I Don't Know

Good evening.

I'm lying in bed at 18:45 with too many thoughts. Originally, this blog began so predictably as a fashion blog; which, to be truthful, had little thought to it. My knowledge about fashion and beauty lacks considerably and I know I should do something if I feel passionate about it whether I am good at it or not but, in all honesty, I have no real interest in the fashion world. I wear joggers most of the time for goodness sake. The reason behind my blog was my desire to write. I just wanted to have something different to do in my spare time. Something new. That I loved. No pressure, just fun. So that's how I'm going to run this blog. I love writing, so if I want to, I will. If I don't, I won't.

Fifteen minutes ago, I read the newest post on Charly Cox's blog Style the Natives called 'Creative Procrastination is Good for You'. With this in mind, don't expect a regular upload. I'll write when and if I am feeling inspired.

Finally, my content will vary. As you may expect with the name of my blog being 'Junior Journalism', I will focus mainly on current news topics. But who knows? I don't even know if I'll upload again!
